Article Abstract:

Both the General Household Survey (GHS) and a survey by condom makers Durex reveal that the oral contraceptive is the most popular from of contraception in the UK. The 1995 GHS shows that 25% of women aged 16-49 use an oral contraceptive, 24% have used male or female sterilisation, and 18% rely on the male condom as their form of contraception. The Durex survey puts oral contraception use at 27% and condom use at 24%. Trends in contraception include a change to GPs as the main source of contraceptive advice, and an increasing tendency towards unprotected sex amongst young people.

A traitor in the ranks

Article Abstract:

Doctor, Phil Hammond, is known for talking openly and critically about the medical profession on television, radio and the newspapers. Hammond has now written a book entitled 'Trust Me (I'm a Doctor)' and he also works as a communications lecturer at Bristol Royal Infirmary medical school. Hammond feels it is essential to give patients good information but he accepts that when patients are aware of diseases and treatments they begin to demand the best possible. This will not be possible through the tax system so insurance will become more important.
