Using obese-specific charts of height and height velocity for assessment of growth in obese children and adolescents during weight excess reduction

Article Abstract:

A height reference chart has been used as the basis for research evaluating the growth of obese children and adolescents participating in a weight excess reduction programme. It was established that a properly constructed and managed weight excess reduction programme does not substantially affect the growth of obese children and adolescents. However, it is still important to be cautious about dietary restriction in obese children and adolescents, especially during the vital phase of growth and pubertal development.

Body mass index in children and adolescents according to age and pubertal stage

Article Abstract:

Cross-sectional body mass index (BMI) values were collected to examine the dependence of BMI values on pubertal stage in subjects similar in age. The subjects included 8.5-15.5 and 10.5-14.5 year old girls and boys. BMI values were found to depend on pubertal degree of maturation, particularly in girls.
