What price confidentiality?

Article Abstract:

The case of charity workers Ruth Wyner and John Brock, who were jailed for permitting drugs to be supplied at a centre for the homeless in Cambridge, England, highlights the ethical problems facing workers in homelessness or drug projects. Community psychiatric nurses and others working with drug addicts and the homeless who are aware of the trading of drugs and do not take steps to prevent it could be deemed guilt of knowingly permitting the supply of drugs and face imprisonment. They have a duty to protect client confidentiality, but place themselves at risk by doing so.

Focus on training

Article Abstract:

A lack of suitable development programmes is resulting in community psychiatric nurses (CPNs) failing to fully utilize available information and educational resources which would improve their skill levels. Health trusts must develop a strategy which encourages CPNs to embark on a regular programme of continued learning, building close working relationships with other professionals involved in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients.

Thinking in psychosis

Article Abstract:

People suffering from a psychotic condition find it hard to control their thoughts. They fail to distinguish fantasy from reality, and may not take account of others' views. Their thoughts are an attempt to finding meaning, and this means that they can benefit from talking.
