Why hasn't eliminating acute rejection improved graft survival?

Article Abstract:

Potent immunosuppressive therapies, specifically calcineurin inhibitors have significantly reduced incidence of acute rejection in patient with renal diseases, but the long-term allograft survival remains limited. The impact of acute rejection on long-term allograft survival and other factors leading to late allograft loss, including calcineurin inhibitor toxicity, and donor and recipient factors related to long-term allograft loss, are discussed.

Nuclear receptors in lipid metabolism: Targeting the heart of dyslipidemia

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the important role played by nuclear hormone receptors in lipid and inflammatory homeostasis, which forms the basis for future therapies. Results show that the liver X receptor (LXR) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) are made attractive molecular targets for managing lipid-related diseases as a result of glucose homeostasis and inflammation.

New reagents on the horizon for immune tolerance

Article Abstract:

Modern developments in immunology and growing weaponary of new drugs are bringing the focus of tolerance research from animal models into the clinical setting. It is found that many reagents with tolerance-inducing potential are presently undergoing clinical testing in transplantation, autoimmune diseases, and allergic diseases.
