Why is verbal abuse getting worse?

Article Abstract:

Nursing Times survey of more than 2,500 nurses indicates that every nine out of ten nurses experienced verbal abuse at work and the problem is becoming worse. The nurses gave a variety of reasons for the increase in verbal abuse, such as higher expectations among patients, a general decline in standards of behavior in society, and a decrease in respect for nurses.
