Artificial neural networks for supporting production planning and control

Article Abstract:

Artificial neural networks (ANN) are increasingly becoming popular as tools for managing production schedules. However, the use of ANN has been largely confined to forecasting master production scheduling frameworks, analyzing optimal lot-sizes for production and procurement, capacity adjustment, scheduling and short-term problem-solving in running processes. Extensive research should be conducted on other potential applications of ANN such as function-building and modeling cause-effect correlations.

Basic points for a strategic production organization requiring simultaneous strategies

Article Abstract:

The concepts based on the'inconsistence hypothesis' are discussed. The hypothesis assumes that cost leadership and differentiation strategies are basically incompatible. The hypothesis is disproved using outcomes from in-depth studies conducted on autonomous groups, lean production, simultaneity, flexible manufacturing systems and computer integrated manufacturing.
