Process reengineering in the public sector: learning some private sector lessons

Article Abstract:

Management consultants in the US are advocating the use of business process reengineering (BPR) in business management. BPR is defined as a revolutionary method of concentrating technological innovations and rethinking organizational processes to conform to present situations and achieve greater performance levels. BPR can be seen as a potential solution to problems in public sector organizations by being mindful of the definition of 'value' while considering specific alterations that must be made in the agency for the method to be effective.

An inventory of organizational innovativeness

Article Abstract:

The contributions of the work environment to the development of technological innovations were described. A bottom-up quantitative method was used to examine the Inventory of Organizational Innovativeness. Specifically, the effectiveness of an organization in providing an environment that inspires innovation was measured. The findings emphasized management support for innovative endeavors, the knowledge and skills of employees and the openness to ideas of change as crucial factors dictating organizational innovation.

Cultural aspect and technological development: a Chinese perspective

Article Abstract:

The impact of culture on technological development was investigated from a Chinese perspective. A survey of the key characteristics of Chinese culture and their effect on the development of a total technology shows that significant cultural differences exist among individuals with strong and weak Chinese cultural inclinations. The nature of technological development as well as the cultural characteristics that may deter or expedite this development were also discussed.
