More on Confederate postmasters' provisional stamps
Article Abstract:
The Confederate states were allowed to issue local stamps until official adhesive postage stamps were provided. In this interim, the post office at Columbia, SC used an old discarded hand stamp to cancel letters. The stamped numbers and their positions on the envelopes are discussed.

The mystery of a civil war 'front.' (front of an envelope possible mailed in 1861)(Lonestar's Postal History)
Article Abstract:
The remains of the envelope may be authentic or it may be a fake. The various features on the front such as the three-cent stamp, and the Brownsville, TX cancellation are discussed. The envelope was possibly canceled by a Confederate post office. The investigation is detailed.

The Confederate States Naval Academy
Article Abstract:
A stamped and cancelled envelope sent to an officer on a Confederate naval training ship was analyzed for historical content. A reference, 'The Register of Officers of the Confederate States Navy' identified the sendee. From other clues, a history of the academy is presented.
