Rising sun: facets transparent opal to fit standard jewelry mounts

Article Abstract:

Common knowledge among facetors is the difficulty in faceting opal so that the pavilion reflects an acceptable amount of light back to the viewer to make a bright stone, and that opal never reflects lot of light. Procedure for dealing with it, the technical details required and the skill level needed as mentioned is 1 out of 5, are outlined.

Kansa triangle: a triangle cushion facet design

Kansas triangle, with an emphasis on a very rounded triangular shape to nullify the usual "point" fragility of triangular designs, while equally emphasis zing meetpoints step cuts in the primary parts of the crown is discussed. Skill level required is three out of five and the required technical data is mentioned.

Amateur competition faceting: Where there are winners but no losers, because everyone comes away a better facetor than before

The spirit, goals, and rewards of amateur competition are described. Amateur competitions do not require expensive materials but instead accept or select readily available material, including synthetics, that does not place undue financial burden on contestants.
