USPS provides plenty of stamps for the holidays

Article Abstract:

The USPS honors many of the traditions of the American Christmas. On Dec 16, 1953, Santa's Workshop, North Pole, NY was designated a substation of the Lake Placid, NY post office. The four 1995 non-religious stamps include Santa on a roof. The religious-themes were mother and child, and an angel.

Midnight angel design based on antique postcard

Article Abstract:

The US Postal Service issued on Oct. 19, 1995 900 million 'Midnight Angel' and 'Children Sledding' self-adhesive holiday stamps. The stamps were designed by John Grossman and Laura Alders of Richmond Point, CA. The 'Midnight Angel' stamp's design came from an original greeting card made in 1910.

Portrait origins for the Army-Navy issues

Article Abstract:

The army-navy issues which depicts various American heroes and has Scott numbers 785-794, required the gathering of likenesses of the honorees. Portraits from engravings to photographs were used. A description of the source material for each of the stamp portraits is provided.
