Mono Lake

Article Abstract:

The water level of Mono Lake, California is increasing because of heavy snowfall in the Sierra Nevada mountains in 1994. The water level of the lake decreased both because of drought and the diversion of water from its tributaries by Los Angeles. This decreased water level exposed land bridges to the islands which were used by land predators to attack nesting colonies of migratory birds. In 1994, the Californian Water Resources Control Board banned diversion of the tributaries. However, the water level will take 20 years to reach that approved by the water board.
