Going coconuts

Article Abstract:

Concerns over the negative ecological impact of peat mining have led to the emergence of coir or coconut fiber dust as an alternative to peat moss in gardening mulches. Coir dust is created from the processing of coconut fibers used to make rope or floor mats. The dust can hold twice as much water as peat and is also chemically similar to peat.
