Restoring a derelict pasture

Article Abstract:

An effort to determine the value of agricultural land in one community led a couple to buy a tillable parcel that had been neglected for 15 years. They had to remove forest growth that had encroached onto the fields. Sudan grass was planted to control weeds and the soil was treated with lime.

The fresh connection: Community Supported Agriculture stabilizes farm income and brings fresh organic produce directly to consumers

Article Abstract:

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) started in Japan in the 1960s because of too much imported food, and since 1985, the practice has grown in the US. Consumers prepay for produce from local farms and receive fresh organic produce. Tips on finding or starting a local CSA program are given.
