The new Scotty's: faces familiar challenges

Article Abstract:

Scotty's Pres Tom Morris says that the Winter Haven, FL-based regional hardware store chain can survive and prosper, despite the encroachment of such huge national chains as Home Depot on a territory it once shared only with independent retailers. To compete effectively with the national chains, Scotty's remodelled and re-merchandised 33 stores and closed 16 units that were underperforming. Such steps helped Scotty's to post a comparable store increase of nearly 8% in annual sales.
