Planting colorful foliage plants or flowers needs careful planning to avoid too many bright colors competing with one another for attention. Color must be concentrated in one area to create an impression. Walls, steps, evergreen shrubs and ground covers are ideal backgrounds for beds of colorful flowers.

A patch of vegetables

Article Abstract:

Jeff Lewis manages his small backyard vegetable garden to afford high productivity at minimum maintenance. Four 8-foot by 8-foot vegetable beds provide enough for Lewis' family of four, with more for storage and giveaways.
