Writer Michael Pollan and his wife, artist Judith Belzer, bought an old farm house in Connecticut and proceeded to create a vegetable garden. Pollan first enriched the soil and then built raised vegetable beds that need less watering. Among their crops are: tomatoes, pumpkins, and beans.

Paradise now: a Seattle gardener created an island oasis of flowers, fruits and vegetables among the ruins of an old farm

Article Abstract:

In 1980, Sherburne bought a dilapidated farm on an Decatur Island, located 90 miles north of Seattle, WA. Since that time, Sherburne has transformed the grounds of the farm into a well-designed and productive garden complete with an 80-by-22-foot berry cage, a pond and a gazebo.
