2004 bargaining round in focus

Article Abstract:

Norwegian trade unions have opted for industry-by-industry round of collective bargaining in 2004 instead of a centrally coordinated method. This has resulted in higher wage growth as well as resolution of other issues like pensions, temporary working and treatment of foreign workers. Negotiations in this manner however failed in some of the sectors resulting in disputes and conflicts. Salient points of negotiations are classified as per industrial sector and presented. It may be noted that bargaining for wages in Norway is done once in every two years, i.e., in every even year.
