Comparing cases: studies of commitment systems in Australia and the United States

Article Abstract:

A comparative case study methodology using the experiences of PhD research to study industrial relations and commitment systems at brownfield and greenfield sites in Australia and the United States is discussed. The issues and challenges that may confront a student undertaking a research of similar type are presented and the benefits of long-term organizationally are demonstrated.

An assessment of employee ownership in the United States with implications for the EU

The state of employee ownership in United States is assessed to help the human resource professional make practical decisions and the policy maker evaluate major trends. There is a significant gap in the incidence and development of employee ownership between the European Union and the United States.

The managerial prerogative and the employee's duty to work: a comparative study of functional flexibility in working life

Article Abstract:

Anna Christensen's theory of the normative field of law is discussed and applied to the field of comparative labor law research. The focus of the research is the legal regulation of the managerial prerogative in the light of the increasing trend towards greater flexibility in employment.
