Employee relations in America

Article Abstract:

US unionism has declined, but many companies have adopted a cooperative joint employee-management approach. In these companies, union members play a constructive role in corporate decision-making, resulting in improved quality, worker productivity, and a more cohesive workforce. Although changes in the private sector sometimes have been slowed by union resistance, this approach has worked particularly well for public sector employers. The US partnership approach, with its increased levels of employee involvement, is likely to affect UK management practices.

Labor relations: unions at the centre of working life

Article Abstract:

The role of trade unions in Norway is highly influential and is based on a traditional corporatist incomes policy rationale. The goal of such a corporatist policy is to improve economic performance through a strategy of consensus building, with the aim of achieving compromises between the conflicting interests of labor and capital and this goal further necessitated the creation of strong trade union movement.
