Employment and employability: foundation of the new social contract

Article Abstract:

An employment/employability model that promotes a win-win scenario for companies and employees is described. The model advocates employees' responsibility in enhancing their employability. It also encourages employers to become more accountable in getting the best results from each worker through coaching and counseling. They can also make use of training programs to enhance employee skills and advance the acquisition of new ones. Moreover, the framework urges employers to establish a set of commitment to its employees based on a number of principles. These include the encouragement of initiative and innovation, provision of challenging tasks for promotion and growth, and the establishment of a working environment that is sensitive to employees' needs.
