Ergonomic hand-grip for attenuating vibrations in hand-held power tools

Article Abstract:

Two approaches have traditionally been taken to the problem of reducing the amplitude of motion transferred from one vibrating body to another, a key cause of Reynaud's Phenomena, or Vibration White Finger. One approach involves inserting an elastic element between the two bodies, while the other involves using a vibration absorber made up of a spring-mounted auxiliary mass. A new vibration absorbing material developed at De Montford University in collaboration with OHS Ltd links these two approaches. It is made up of different diameter particles of lead, with each absorbent particle being surrounded by a thin layer of elasticated, low-friction silicone polymer.
