Ethnicity, nationality and gender: a cross-cultural comparison of business ethical decisions in four countries

Article Abstract:

A survey of 513 management students carried out in the US, Mexico, Korea and China has found national and ethnic differences in terms of how ethical issues are viewed. There are marked differences between Hispanics and Asians, and less marked differences between Caucasians and Asians. Mexican and US Hispanics tend to be similar, though there are differences between Asians and Asian-Americans. Ethical reasoning also varies according to gender in the subjects studied as a whole, but not within the different countries studied.

The ethics of peer reporting in Chinese societies: evidence of Hong Kong and Shanghai

Article Abstract:

With a focus on Hong Kong and Shanghai, this study examines the ethical aspects of peer reporting in Chinese societies. Accordingly, a framework that interprets peer reporting behavior in terms of locus of control, ethical ideology of the individual and subjective judgement regarding the ethicality of peer reporting is developed.

Socialized to be a professional: a study of the professionalism of accountants in Hong Kong

Article Abstract:

Professionalism from the socialization perspective is viewed and the antecedents and outcomes of professionalism are examined for a sample of accountants in Hong Kong. The findings indicate that current job characteristics have a stronger effect on professionalism than does early stage socialization.
