'Steam Team' to help industry

Article Abstract:

The WA-based Alliance to Save Energy and the US Department of Energy are forming the Steam Challenge to address the problem of lack of information that has stalled manufacturers from enhancing efficiency, reliability, productivity and safety of their industrial steam systems. The Steam Challenge's objective is to attain overall efficiency progress of 20% by year 2010. Savings would reach $4.2 bil yearly and avert emissions equivalent to 43-mil metric tons of carbon.

An innovative managed care strategy specially designed for the elderly is presented. The strategy involves health maintenance organizations and competitive medical plans in a direct risk-sharing contrct with Medicare. Traditionally, managed care systems, specifically those established and operated by insurance firms, are applied exclusively to active employees or retirees younger than 65 years old.
