From here to security?

Article Abstract:

An analysis of 18 UK employers' employment security policies indicated most employers used such policies to manage workplace changes and transition. These policies have been used to reassure remaining employees prior to voluntary layoffs and to win employee support for changes. Typically, the policies have described the type of staff reductions or transition time-frame anticipated. Policies have often focused on improving staff employability and flexibility, often essentially trading pay concessions in exchange for job security. Employers have used temporary employees to ease transition.

Job security and jointism in the "big three" US auto companies

Article Abstract:

Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors have tempered the pain of their downsizing efforts through employee involvement strategies such as joint union-management committees, training centers, and company groups. Job security has been enhanced by negotiating provisions protecting workers with seniority against layoffs. These collaborative efforts in jointism, exemplified by Ford mutual growth forums, have led to increased productivity as well as reasserted management control.

A joint United Auto Workers-General Motors Corp. team, set up in 1984, developed a novel, different approach to building small cars involving lean production, an empowered workforce and labour-management partnership. General Motors set up the Saturn Corp to put these ideas into practice and saw self-directed teams and union-management partnership as the driving force of this system. The Saturn plant is further detailed.
