From survival to prosperity: labour-management partnership in the United States

Article Abstract:

Labor-management partnership has advanced much more in the United States than in the United Kingdom, even though far fewer US workers are union members than is true in the UK. US unions in many widely-familiar and small organizations are becoming involved on an equal basis with management in strategic planning and decision-making and in efforts to improve performance. This development has been largely prompted by the fear of US unions and employers for their individual and joint survival.

A partnership approach to employment relations?

Article Abstract:

A 1996 Fabian Society report indicates UK employer-employee relations need to evolve in order to improve workers' status as well as productivity and competition. The report says traditional labor divisions continue to predominate, although change has occurred steadily over 20 years. The report recommends increased employee participation and consultation and provides examples of ways to improve employee relations.
