HRM practices in China-Western joint ventures: MNC standardization versus localization

Article Abstract:

The compatibility of human resource management (HRM) practices used by multinational corporations and Sino-Western joint ventures is analysed and findings suggest that the HRM strategies of local units of multinationals may incorporate some aspects of local responsiveness. Personal interviews with local managers and professionals in the organizations lead to the conclusion that various HRM practices respond differently to localization and standardization and that it is difficult to blend local practices with those of the foreign partner.
