How aware are employees of their benefits? Findings from two companies

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine employee awareness of their benefits. Data were obtained from a manufacturing firm and a service firm. Employees in both samples were asked to indicate which benefits from a checklist of 38 benefits were made available by their organization. A more than 85% accuracy rate was reported, debunking previous research and anecdotal evidence that employees are generally unaware of their benefits. However, results also showed that a majority still do not comprehend the benefit costs shouldered by employers.

Universal basic benefits preempt mandated benefits

Article Abstract:

The US spends a significant amount on health care but inadequate health insurance is still a major national problem. A state's health care system should address the needs of its citizens. Individuals should have basic health care such as a basic benefits plan even if it runs counter to the states' mandated benefits. Coverage for non-basic services should be available in the health care market.
