In defence of active management

Article Abstract:

Pension fund trustees in the UK market are shifting to a risk-controlling measure to ensure the continued solvency of their pension schemes. The first option under consideration is usually the use of passive management or indexation. Other reasons for the shift to passive management are the inability of the average active fund manager to outperform the benchmark indices in a consistent way, the control risk, the Minimum Fund Requirement and the costs of investment. However, a closer analysis reveals that it is limited in what it can do in the removal of risk.

Fund managers begin to come clean

Article Abstract:

Funds managers have traditionally charged commissions for deals in the international investment market. However, some managers have instead given their clients the option for a clean fee that accounts for all indirect charges. The shift has been attributed to lobbying efforts, increased information access to fee structures and the pro-clean fee principles of transparency and conflict removal.
