As employers begin to recognize the importance of hiring qualified personnel, their recruiting techniques are becoming more innovative and sophisticated. Innovative methods include: employee referral programs; recruitment advertising (print advertising is the most common, but television and direct mail are quickly gaining popularity); college recruitment; employment agencies; employment center franchises located in shopping malls; video interviewing; computer databases of job applicants; job fairs; and hiring retirees as part-time or temporary workers. These and other recruiting techniques are discussed in some detail.
