On-line recruitment

Article Abstract:

Personnel directors can use computers to enhance almost every facet of employee recruitment. Industry statistics show that 80 percent of the money and time spent for recruiting managerial, professional, technical, and administrative personnel is directed at sourcing. This means that by just communicating with possible candidates, attracting a group of them(through job applications or resumes), and checking the applicants to screen out those who are not qualified, will use up almost all of the resources of the personnel department which were intended for this purpose. It will leave about 20 percent of the effort for direct contact and discussion with the prospects, examining references, etc.

Simulations: capturing the experience of the real thing

Article Abstract:

Computer simulations offer a remarkable new tool for training. This is particularly true in situations requiring that cognitive and motor skills be tied together. The use of simulations for soft, interpersonal skills is more recent and less effective. One simulation, The Society of New Hope, models general management problems. Properly controlled, simulations can go where no training has gone before.
