Maintain a union-free status

Article Abstract:

A company faced with the possibility of a trade-union organizing its employees should, within the limits of the law, actively oppose the attempt. A company is guaranteed the right to present its views, arguments, and opinions opposing the union as long as those expressions do not threaten reprisal or offer any benefits for not joining. A company may present to its employees statements referring to the general downward trend in trade-union membership, that union membership does not guarantee employment, and that a company is required only to bargain in good faith and is not required to accept any union demands not in the company's best interests. Statements and actions for the company to avoid include intimating that the the company will go out of business if it is unionized, promoting the belief that that wages and benefits will be cut if the company is unionized, and spying on union activities.

Wooing the Pink Collar Work Force

Article Abstract:

With the increase of women in the work force, unions are looking to organize them. Companies need to audit their procedures and policies or unions will move in. Companies can make unions unnecessary by creating an ideal work environment and implementing a positive employee relations program. Companies that want to maintain a union free policy must instruct their managers and supervisors in the laws pertaining to labor and equal employment opportunity.
