Performance management

Article Abstract:

Unemployment in Switzerland is on the upswing, with the ratio of those unemployed to the active population rising to 4% in 1995. Major changes undertaken by some private firms have resulted in massive downsizing, affecting an estimated 75% of the total workforce. Meanwhile, the public sector is beset by rising deficits and increasing demands on services and performance. To address these problems, both sectors have turned to business re-engineering. Performance management ensures client satisfaction through process effectiveness and employee motivation, leading to value creation.
