Public sector training: Training and development in the public sector varies among states and cities

Article Abstract:

The terrorist attacks of 2001 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005 in the US emphasized the need for government personnel and expertise to be prepared in the event of an emergency. As a result, training experts are helping government agencies make the transition from static personnel management to incorporate modern, more efficient performance management programs that include greater reliance on online training, and the institution of succession planning to develop leaders for the future.

Article Abstract:

Doug Bardwell, the director of internal communications at Forest City Enterprises researched audience response systems such Turning Technologies' Turning-Point 2006 and ResponseCard solution. These systems have the ability to improve an organization's efficiency and effectiveness to achieve the objective of gathering aggregate data and determining strategic planning with large audience and to improve business decisions with a small team.

Quantifiable evidence: Metrics take center stage in training and development

Article Abstract:

ASTD is planning to introduce its Workplace Learning and Performance (WLP) Scorecard to assist companies in evaluating their training impact. This online scorecard provides users with a standard set of metrics which are applicable in various degrees to all companies which gives two sets of reports such as a collection of standard learning metrics and the WLP index.
