Small and mid-cap stocks in an international portfolio

Article Abstract:

A growing number of pension funds are investing in foreign equity markets to reduce the volatility of their portfolios. Investments in large companies in non-domestic equity markets have been proven to lower risk diversification with the globalization of the world economy. However, it is argued that a similar decrease can also be achieved through investments in small- and medium-sized companies that reflect domestic economic development.

Article Abstract:

Prefunded group retirement schemes are popular in Hong Kong corporations and in many government agencies. Insurance contracts, pooled funds, segregated portfolios and in-house management are the four investment choices for these retirement schemes. The major players in each of these investment choices are identified, and statistics on the 1980s financial markets, investment performance and asset allocation trends are presented.
