Stress on the roads: condition red

Article Abstract:

Congested roads are a problem for country's such as Britain where more than 90% of internal freight depends on commercial vehicles. Britian's roads have some of the heaviest traffic in Europe, and 'stress' maps released by the Department of Transport (DOT) show that roads will become even more congested. The British Roads Federation claims that Britain's motorways are busier because there are fewer of them, compared to other countries. New roads and strategic links would help to ease congestion but public funding for roads has been severely reduced, therefore higher fuel prices, charging schemes and hi-tech management systems may be the solution.

Entrepreneurial stress: is it hazardous to your health?

Article Abstract:

Entrepreneurs have more stress-related health problems than managers. The former confront more role ambiguity problems while the latter are more concerned with role conflict. Entrepreneurs also have lower job satisfaction because of work/home conflicts and the weighty decision making problems they undertake. Among this group, Type B entrepreneurs experience greater stress under unclear work conditions than their Type A counterparts. But those who are able to leave work worries behind at the day's end have less stress-related health problems and experience greater job satifaction.

Organisational stress: targeting resources more effectively

Article Abstract:

Managing job stress is a vital part of improving employee performance and well-being in the work environment but rather than an individual-based approach employers should take the holistic one of looking at changes needed in the organization. Anxiety is an integral part of work and increases with mergers, downsizing, reform or new leadership. Employers need to examine the workplace structure and the systems used to achieve the organization's primary purposes to identify the changes needed to reduce workplace stress.
