The housing expenditures of women and men who never married and are living in one-person consumer units are studied. These consumer units have lower mean incomes and lower mean housing expenses than other consumers. Housing expenses increase proportionately with income and educational level. Higher housing expenditures were also seen in women in the urban Northeast region and men in the urban West within 35 to 54 years old. Average annual housing expenditure range from $3,000 to $6,000.
