The year 2000: riding the high wave again

Article Abstract:

Putnam Investments senior economic adviser Robert Goodman shares his forecasts on economic developments for the year 2000. He believes that the results of the 1994 elections symbolize a major change in the economic philosophy of the US. He advices investors to accumulate stocks of well-managed mutual funds before major policy reforms take effect. He predicts the government will have a $12 trillion unfunded liability to baby boomers for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. The radical change in the American philosophy would lead to the strongest economic recovery ever.

Mutual funds

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the number of funds in a mutual fund. It was done to find out what effects family size have on the performance of a fund. Data from the Business Week Mutual Fund Scoreboard were used to study shorter term returns, long-term returns, fund objective and age. Results of the study show that fund families having few funds yield lower average returns than multiple fund families. Newer funds outperform older funds for certain family sizes.
