Home, home on the Web

Article Abstract:

Many human resources departments are taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the Internet by posting their own sites on the World Wide Web. Through these home pages, these organizations offer human resources information such as the company's history, its mission, goals, philosophy, benefits and compensation packages, employment opportunities, and job openings at the company. Launching a site on the Web is not difficult. Those interested can simply outsource site development. However, those that prefer to develop a home page on their own only need to have the necessary equipment and software. A special staff is needed to make sure that maintenance is not overlooked once the site has been launched. Aside from an interesting text and good organization, a site should employ exciting visuals to entice Net surfers. Lastly, the organization must market the site to let browsers be aware of the site.

Rating HR online

Article Abstract:

Human resources professionals can take advantage of the vast data that are commercially available through online services. These online services provide a rich repository of articles and news, databases, reports, and discussion groups that are related to the field of human resources management which can aid practitioners in making good business decisions. An added attraction of these services is that they enable human resources professionals to interact with one another through such channels as bulletin boards and chat rooms. However, to maximally enjoy the benefits of these services, professionals should learn how to identify the services that can best meet their needs. Four service providers are evaluated and rated. These are Microsoft Network, America Online, CompuServe and Prodigy.
