Computer viruses can destroy data or computer systems that may never be recovered. Protection from a computer virus requires purchasing a virus scanning program and updating it regularly to detect viruses on diskettes. Diskettes are the primary source of viruses and should not be shared among computers. Bulletin board programs should not be downloaded and computers should not be started with diskettes in the drive.
