Met P&C adds twist to workplace selling

Article Abstract:

Metropolitan Property & Casualty Insurance Co has rolled out an Internet selling program for personal lines insurance for employees of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The Utah program allows employees to access marketing information and prices on the firm's insurance products by interconnecting into the university's home page via their office or home computers. It has also launched an intranet selling program with Microsoft Corp, where 11,000 employees in Washington can access the Metropolitan home page from work.

When insurers make "wrong mistakes."

Property and casualty insurance companies are increasingly being scrutinized and criticized by regulators and consumers. States define the obligations of insurers in settling claims from policyholders, while customers file lawsuits against insurance companies for unfair or fraudulent underwriting practices such as churning and vanishing premiums. That is why insurers need to develop guidelines for auditing and compliance to ensure ethical practice among their agents and employees and avoid unnecessary litigation.
