Moving beyond the learning curve

Article Abstract:

Individual investors are focused on viatical investments. Viatical insurance settlement involves the sale of a life insurance policy at a discounted price to a third party prior to the death of the insured. A study shows that when terminally-ill insured person dies ahead of the projected life expectancies, investors can get profit margins of 45% or more. Buying viatical policies is a negotiation. The viatical funder should make an offer high enough to beat other investors but low enough to ensure a profit margin.

The National Assn of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) adopted a budget resolution supported by the insurance industry and postponed action on a white paper on the use of credit reports in underwriting. These actions were voted upon during the June plenary session at the NAIC summer national meeting in Chicago, IL. The actions taken on the budget resolutions and credit reports constituted two victories for the insurance industry.
