Players from afar
Article Abstract:
The US insurance market continues to be attractive to foreign investors. To start, it is the largest market in the world, accounting for 1/3 of total premiums. There are other advantages. Investing in the US enables foreign insurers to diversify underwriting and decrease risk. In addition, American stock prices often differ dramatically from those on the foreign market. The devaluation of the dollar is an added incentive, as is the notable absence of regulations barring foreign investment in American companies.

Latex rubs many the wrong way; allergies to latex rubber are a new source of liability litigation and new concern for loss managers
Article Abstract:
A large percentage of insurers' product loss exposure and workers' compensation claims stem from allergies to latex rubber products. These allergies have led to over 100 product liability lawsuits and a class action suit being filed against insurers. This spate of lawsuits is of grave concern to loss managers who must impress on their clients the potential risks associated with the use of latex products.
