Article Abstract:

Standard Insurance Co. has replaced its mainframe computer system with an open server information system. The system, which consists of a Sequent Computer Symmetry server, multiple Intel Pentium processors and ProLiant and ProSignia servers from Compaq Computer, has saved the company millions of dollars in hardware and software costs and cut development time and costs by over 30%. The system has also improved customer relations by placing additional staff into position that deal directly with customers.
