Client/server technology gives competitive edge

Article Abstract:

Client/server computer systems provide the kind of flexible, decentralized information infrastructure which makes it possible for insurance companies to sustain the level of product development, information management and customer service necessary for them to succeed in an increasingly competitive market environment. The central issue confronting insurance companies is whether they can successfully move their legacy systems onto client/server systems and adapt them to the increasingly variegated demands that will characterize the insurance market by 2000.

Back to the future

Article Abstract:

The insurance industry must rethink its approach to technology as the cost of using computers and software is being lowered for users. The widespread acceptance of communications standards and software modules is advocated by the "network computing" or NC model. Spending less for desktop computing, both in the field and in-house, is an advantage of the NC model. Software development and seamless, efficient networking are important steps.

Investing in technology is a matter of survival

Article Abstract:

Insurers need to invest in technology to drive the development of new types of products, implement database marketing to reach target clients and respond to customer's immediate needs. Currently, many insurers segment markets based on products or customer characteristics. In the future, insurers will have to integrate customer communications and make customer information available throughout a company.
