Year 2000 doomsayers finally get insurers' attention

Article Abstract:

Many insurance companies are finally heeding the warning of Cigna executive Jack Rader to take the necessary steps to forestall the possibilities of their computers crashing with the advent of the year 2000. Rader warned in 1991 that insurers that failed to resolve the software problem of the two-digit date codes that will arise with the coming of the new millenium will experience huge financial losses that could threaten their profitability and solvency.

Computers help cut reliance on technology consultants

Article Abstract:

Insurance companies have found computers an overall boon in allowing employees to perform tasks that used to be outsourced. Other companies complain that certain tasks are made more difficult with computers because of the amount of time employees spend working on presentation rather than content.
