Team players vs. hired guns: leveraging a competitive advantage

Article Abstract:

Many companies are currently facing problems due to a prevailing lack of employee commitment. The lack of motivation is changing employer-employee relationships since the new generation of workers often value quality of life equal to work commitments. Unlike the employees of past generations who put job security above everything, present employees do their required hours and tasks without interest for the company's overall standing. To combat this, companies need to emphasize employee commitment and develop ways to grant employees autonomous decision making as well as improve employee communications.

Winning the slimming battle

Article Abstract:

Many different systems which claim to allow people to lose weight are now available in the UK, and it can be very hard to choose the best one. In making a selection, the main thing to remember is that the only way to lose weight effectively in the long term is to consume fewer calories and take more exercise. Slimming clubs are generally well run, but some use techniques which encourage unhealthily rapid weight loss. Slimming foods tend to encourage rapid weight loss, which can be dangerous, and are unlikely to assist in long-term weight control.

Abello appeal

Article Abstract:

The conviction and sentencing of Jose Abello on drug-smuggling charges was upheld in Nov 1991 by the 10th US Circuit Court of Appeals. The ABA Journal criticized the Justice Department's handling of the original case. After Abello's appeal failed, US Attorney Tony Graham faulted the Journal's story as 'slanted.' The ABA Journal stands by its position on the Abello case.
