Train all employees to solve ethical dilemmas

Article Abstract:

Insurance managers can place the correct emphasis on ethics in everyday practice by establishing training programs for agents and other employees. Ethics training programs are valuable in reminding employees of the value of ethics and in providing them with the necessary background to make correct ethics decisions. Many companies have placed a greater emphasis on regulation compliance than on general business ethics. However, training in ethics can offer employees greater options for dealing with the broad range of problems that arise in the insurance business.

Caught in the middle

Article Abstract:

Insurance agents often find themselves trapped between the ethical desire to find better policies for their clients and no-replacement clauses in insurance company contracts. Agents who provide replacement policies for clients often lose their renewal income and are sometimes sued by insurers. Agent consultant Dave Goodwin says that contract rhetoric is designed to maintain obsolete policies, but former NALU Pres Alan Press says that most replacement policies are not good for clients. The answer to the problem lies in what is best for the customer.
