Using outside counsel cost-effectively

Article Abstract:

Lawyers should work with insurance firms to keep legal costs low without sacrificing their high quality of service. Important to that goal is the need for lawyers to keep abreast of legal and industry trends, to use and understand technology and to budget for their legal services. Some law firms use a legal administrator to help them develop more efficient operations. All lawyers should focus on developing good working relationships with the court system and other legal counsel.

Insurers and lawyers unified on mediation

Article Abstract:

The National Pre-Suit Mediation Program has been established by insurance companies and trial lawyers to encourage the use of mediation in all cases. Mediation can prove far less costly for insurers than going to trial, while lawyers can benefit by receiving contingent fees up front, instead of having to wait for the case to be decided. The legal system itself will be less burdened and better able to process cases efficiently.

Smaller insurers take on the big guys

Article Abstract:

Smaller insurance companies that are using independent insurance agencies are attempting to expand their business through taking business away from direct writers of insurance. Curbing expenses is one obvious way in which these smaller companies are increasing their efficiency. Smaller firms have a 37% expense ratio for homeowners' insurance compared with 28% for direct writers for the same type of insurance.
