China in the Indian Ocean region: Lessons in PRC grand strategy

Article Abstract:

The People's Republic of China's (PRC's) grand strategy is examined by analyzing evidence of China's activity in the Indian Ocean region. A review of applicable theoretical concepts from the realist school of thought, a discussion of Chinese activities in the region, and a consideration of alternative perspectives are presented, and an attempt is made to determine what effect China's view towards the United States has on its southwestern development, and what the nature of China's grand strategy could mean for Indian Ocean region in the future.
