Japan-Russia relations and north-east Asian security

Article Abstract:

Deep mutual suspicion underlies Japan-Russia relations giving rise to pressing concerns of security over north-east Asia. Central to this mistrust is the territorial row over the Kuril Islands. This has stalled all efforts at improving political and economic ties. Unstable political conditions in both countries rule out even marginal improvement in bilateral relations. However, the need to address emerging security issues such as the containment of a potentially hegemonic China, requires multilateral cooperation that would ensure the political and economic transformation of Russia.

An elective partnership: salvaging transatlantic relations

Article Abstract:

A new sustainable transatlantic relationship would require a series of deliberate decisions on both sides of the Atlantic. In order to restore the solidarity between France and the United States, the government of both the sides would have to take some well-planned measures, like revitalizing the NATO alliance.
